This week a
fabulous collection of art works is on display from 29 May - 3 June at the Pumanawa Community Exhibition Space, Christchurch Arts Centre, prior to their being auctioned as a fundraiser for the rebuild of the damaged and decaying Governors Bay jetty. The artists' brief was to depict the 'iconic' long jetty in any manner of their choosing. The auction is on 9 June, 3.00pm at the Governors Bay Hotel. Come along...
I thought the best thing I could do to help promote this fundraiser was to assemble a bunch of images of the long jetty, from its short, unassuming beginnings to its lengthy magnificence and subsequent decline. Many of these images were gathered for my book
Head of the Harbour: A History of Governors bay, Ohinetahi, Allandale and Teddington. Others have been acquired since for this blog.
Enjoy!!
