Governors Bay jetty photo montage

While I paddle furiously behind the scenes to prepare posts on Cass Bay and Corsair Bay (Cass Bay is the tricky one) I thought I'd buy time by posting another photo montage of the Governors Bay jetty. I've already written about this jetty earlier in the blog (and done a similar photo montage) - but it is so distinctive and photogenic that it warrants another 'outing'.

Also the Governors Bay Jetty Restoration Trust is working its socks off fundraising to rebuild the quake-damaged, neglected structure which will then take its rightful place as part of the emerging Head-to-Head Walkway. This restoration project, driven entirely by locals, needs all the publicity it can get!!

So working backwards over the past 145 years.....

  1. Fascinating collection of pictures, Jane. Shows the jetty was much-used over the years. We need it even more nowadays since the silting of the bay makes it difficult to access the water at anything but high tide. The Jetty Trust is paddling hard behind the scenes, but we hope to start some noticeable work soon. Will take lots of photos for future montages!

  2. Thanks Louisa. Someone said to me recently that once some 'noticeable work' begins it will be easier to fundraise because people are more ready to commit to a project they can see happening. Don't know if that is so but I hope so. I do love the different views of the jetty over the decades.

    1. Yes, we've heard the same. Luckily, we have a team of volunteers who would happily start work tomorrow. Just waiting for a couple of things to be confirmed, the sale and purchase agreement to be signed (and $1 to be paid to the Council), and then we can press GO!
